It reminds me of a great passage in Sandra Steingraber's Having Faith, which posits that (to paraphrase) it is absolutely unfair to put the burden on mothers, not chemical companies and other polluters. Expecting MOTHERS to keep up with which kind of fish is OK to eat, which kind of bottle OK to buy,and so forth, does indeed let the polluters off the hook, turning a matter of public health into a solely individual responsibility and a chance (lucky us!) to exercise "free choice" in the marketplace.Amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04375647538132182880noreply@blogger.com
